The Benefits of DIY Wedding Flowers

Are you a DIY sort of person? If so, you might want to consider handling your wedding flowers using this approach. Why allow someone else to have the fun of selecting the colorful blooms that fill the day? Why not create a unique opportunity to interact with friends and family during a “build a bouquet” event? Instead of making your wedding planning and the days leading up to the “big day” all about work and organization, you could incorporate some creative fun into the schedule by choosing to do DIY wedding flowers.

How would this work? First, you would have to determine the types of flowers you require. For instance, will you need table centerpieces, arrangements and decorations for the location of the service, and bouquets and boutonnieres for the bridal party? Make a detailed list of the all of the flowers required and then begin thinking about the primary blooms or the theme you want to have for your wedding flowers. For instance, are you thinking primary colors? Maybe you want all pastels? Are you hoping to have a lot of roses spread all around? Do you want peonies or irises? You may want to even sketch out a rough idea of the “looks” of the arrangements to help you make your decisions.

Once all of the basic choices have been made around your wedding flowers, you can begin to look at a few reputable providers of online flowers. Be sure that they can guarantee delivery times and dates and that they have a sort of “backup” plan should the blooms you order be unavailable through their usual channels. For instance, it is a good idea to find a group with a lot of experience, but which also emphasizes their reliability around getting the bride and groom the exact flowers they ordered.

Once you select your provider, you must take the time to draft a very firm schedule for building the arrangements and handling the flowers to the best ability possible. Remember that your flowers will probably arrive only a day or two ahead of the ceremony and reception, and it will be up to you to ensure that all of them are kept in good condition, arranged, and located properly.

Remember, too, that some of the finer flower vendors will also make rose petals, containers, and vases readily available for the clients to order as well. This is a wonderful way to ensure that the exact floral theme is created.
